Lawrence S. Charfoos of Charfoos & Christensen, P.C., Invited To Speak at Annual Convention of
Inner Circle of Advocates
Lawrence S. Charfoos, Charfoos & Christensen, P.C.,
Detroit, Mich., was invited to speak to fellow members of
the Inner Circle of Advocates at its Annual Convention in
Chicago IL, August 3-7, 2003. Charfoos spoke on the status
of Michigan law after tort reform.
The Inner Circle of Advocates is an organization made up
of the top plaintiff’s attorneys in the country. The
threshold for membership includes at least one million dollar
verdict and the completion of fifty personal injury cases.
Total membership is limited to 100 members.
In 1972 Charfoos became the first attorney in Michigan to
win a verdict of more than one million dollars. He is the
author of The Medical Malpractice Case: A Complete Handbook,
published by Prentice-Hall, 1974 and co-author of Personal
Injury Practice: Technique and Technology, published by Lawyers
Co-operative, 1986. Both books have become standard references
for personal injury attorneys.
Charfoos received national attention during the 1970’s
for his precedent-setting work involving the drug diethylstilbestrol
(DES), representing women whose risk of cancer stemmed from
their mothers taking DES during pregnancy. His involvement
in this case led him to write the book, Daughters At Risk:
A Personal DES History, published by Doubleday in 1981.
Charfoos has also been involved in such cases as the Korean
Airlines plane crash, the Northwest Airlines plane crash in
Detroit, Michigan and the infamous Northwest Airlines Detroit
Snowstorm Class Action lawsuit brought on behalf of almost
7000 passengers affected by delays and cancelled flights during
the 1999 News Years Weekend snowstorm in Detroit. His litigation
interests have grown over the years to include complex commercial
litigation.
